The short version of ACTH fragment fits in a sentence. The long version — which is the one that helps — is below.

Reported pharmacological work centers on neurotrophic signaling, including changes in BDNF and NGF expression in hippocampal tissue in animal models. Human data come largely from studies conducted in Russia, and how well those results generalize to other populations remains an open question. Regulatory status differs sharply by jurisdiction: Semax is a registered prescription medicine in Russia, while it holds no approved marketing status in the United States or the European Union. Outside such jurisdictions it is generally handled as a research chemical, which affects both documentation and quality expectations.
Semax is a synthetic heptapeptide whose sequence is Met-Glu-His-Phe-Pro-Gly-Pro. It was developed as a fragment analog of adrenocorticotropic hormone, modeled specifically on the ACTH(4-10) region. The first four residues reproduce that fragment, while a Pro-Gly-Pro tripeptide is appended at the C-terminus. Work on the compound originated in Russia, where it entered clinical use as an intranasal preparation. Its sequence places it among short regulatory peptides studied for effects on the central nervous system rather than on the adrenal axis.
The C-terminal Pro-Gly-Pro extension is not incidental. Proline-rich tails are known to resist several common peptidases, and the published literature attributes the longer half-life of Semax, relative to unmodified ACTH fragments, to this feature. The modification also removes the melanocyte-stimulating and corticosteroidogenic activity that characterizes longer ACTH-derived sequences. Because the molecule is small and hydrophilic, it is typically formulated as an aqueous solution for intranasal or parenteral delivery. Acetylation or amidation at the termini appears in closely related research peptides and shifts the mass by a fixed increment.
Identity and purity are established with standard peptide methods. Reversed-phase HPLC with ultraviolet detection near 214 nm resolves the parent peak from deletion and truncation byproducts, and reports typically quote a main-peak percentage. Mass spectrometry by electrospray or MALDI-TOF confirms the expected molecular mass, while amino acid analysis or peptide mapping can verify composition when the sequence itself is in question. A certificate of analysis that pairs a chromatogram with a mass spectrum is more informative than a purity figure alone. Counter-ion content and residual solvents are separate specifications and are frequently omitted.
Semax is normally supplied as a lyophilized powder, and that form is the most stable. Suppliers commonly recommend storage at -20 °C in a desiccated container protected from light, with short-term handling at room temperature limited to weighing and transfer. Powder that has absorbed moisture degrades faster, so vials should be warmed to ambient temperature before opening to prevent condensation on the contents. Hygroscopic behavior is typical of short hydrophilic peptides, and humidity control matters more than temperature alone for long-term retention.

The compound was developed during the 1980s at the Institute of Molecular Genetics in Moscow as part of research on fragments of adrenocorticotropic hormone. Early work examined short ACTH-derived sequences that retained neurotrophic effects while lacking the endocrine activity of the full hormone. Semax entered clinical use in Russia during the 1990s, where it received registration for several neurological indications. Outside that region it remained primarily a laboratory research material rather than an approved therapeutic. English-language literature on it grew more slowly and frequently cited the original Russian studies.
Terminology around the compound varies by source. It appears in catalogues and papers as Semax, as the heptapeptide ACTH(4-7)-Pro-Gly-Pro, and under various alphanumeric laboratory codes used by individual suppliers. These names refer to the same sequence but may imply different salt forms, purity grades, or counter-ions. Peptide databases usually list the free base mass, while product descriptions sometimes report acetate or trifluoroacetate salts with a different formula weight. Because naming conventions for research peptides are not standardised across vendors, checking the declared sequence and measured mass is more reliable than relying on a trade name alone.
Semax is a synthetic heptapeptide with the sequence Met-Glu-His-Phe-Pro-Gly-Pro. Its design combines the ACTH(4-7) core fragment with a C-terminal Pro-Gly-Pro extension, a modification intended to improve stability and prolong activity. The molecule is hydrophilic, carries no lipid chains or glycosylation, and has a theoretical mass just over 810 daltons in its free form. All seven residues are proteinogenic amino acids, so no non-natural building blocks appear in the backbone. A free N-terminal methionine and C-terminal proline define the unmodified parent peptide.
Published research has focused mainly on neurological and cognitive endpoints in animal models, with proposed mechanisms involving brain-derived neurotrophic factor and related signalling pathways. A substantial share of the human data originates from a limited number of research groups, and independent replication in other countries remains sparse. Regulatory status reflects that distribution: the peptide is registered as a medicine in Russia and appears in some neighbouring markets, while elsewhere it is handled as a research chemical without approved therapeutic labelling. Questions about dose-response relationships, long-term effects, and comparability across studies are still open.
Lyophilised powder is normally kept at -20 °C in a desiccated container, with some suppliers recommending -80 °C for long-term archival storage. Repeated freeze-thaw cycles are the most common cause of avoidable loss, so aliquoting before freezing reduces variability between working sessions. Dissolved peptide is far less stable than the dry solid and is usually prepared fresh or held briefly at 4 °C. Aqueous solutions support both hydrolysis of the backbone and oxidation of the N-terminal methionine, and these two routes dominate degradation under ordinary laboratory conditions.
Nando's opened their first outlet in New Zealand, at Glenfield in 2000. As of August 2021, there are 20 Nando's outlets throughout New Zealand, located in the regions of Auckland, Bay of Plenty, Christchurch, Hamilton, Wellington, and Dunedin. In New Zealand, Nando's sources its chicken from SPCA Certified free-range farms. However, animal welfare organisation Animals Aotearoa has raised concerns that these chickens are selectively bred to grow abnormally fast, causing chronic pain, lameness, and difficulty accessing food and water. Some reportedly suffer respiratory issues and organ failure within weeks of hatching. The organisation advocates for the Better Chicken Commitment (BCC), which Nando's UK and Ireland have adopted, but Nando's New Zealand has not, meaning unnaturally fast-growing breeds—and associated welfare issues—remain in use.
I agreed emphatically with Henry Stimson. Once we had got ourselves into the business of bombing cities, we might as well do the job competently and get it over with. I felt better that morning than I had felt for years... Those fellows who had built the atomic bombs obviously knew their stuff... Later, much later, I would remember [the downside]. I am convinced that to avoid nuclear war it is not sufficient to be afraid of it. It is necessary to be afraid, but it is equally necessary to understand. And the first step in understanding is to recognize that the problem of nuclear war is basically not technical but human and historical. If we are to avoid destruction we must first of all understand the human and historical context out of which destruction arises. In 1967, in his capacity as a military adviser, Dyson wrote an influential paper on the issue of possible US use of tactical nuclear weapons in the Vietnam War. When a general said in a meeting, "I think it might be a good idea to throw in a nuke now and then, just to keep the other side guessing..." Dyson became alarmed and obtained permission to write a report on the pros and cons of using such weapons from a purely military point of view. (This report, Tactical Nuclear Weapons in Southeast Asia, published by the Institute for Defense Analyses, was obtained, with some redactions, by the Nautilus Institute for Security and Sustainability under the Freedom of Information act in 2002.) It was sufficiently objective that both sides of the debate based their arguments on it.
=== Clinical trials === The phase 1 clinical pharmacology trial described by Nishimura and colleagues evaluated insulin icodec in people with type 2 diabetes using a randomized, double-blind, double-dummy, active-controlled, multiple-dose, dose-escalation design. The study reported a mean half-life of 196 hours and glucose-lowering activity distributed across the weekly dosing interval, supporting further development as a once-weekly basal insulin. In ONWARDS 1, once-weekly insulin icodec was compared with once-daily insulin glargine U100 in adults with type 2 diabetes who had not previously used insulin. Insulin icodec was non-inferior, and statistically superior for reduction in glycated hemoglobin. The phase III ONWARDS clinical trial program evaluated once-weekly insulin icodec in adults with diabetes. ONWARDS 3 compared weekly icodec with daily insulin degludec in insulin-naïve adults with type 2 diabetes. Icodec produced a greater reduction in glycated hemoglobin after 26 weeks, with low absolute rates of clinically significant or severe hypoglycemia in both groups. ONWARDS 6 studied insulin icodec in adults with type 1 diabetes using a basal-bolus insulin regimen. Icodec was non-inferior to once-daily insulin degludec for reduction in glycated hemoglobin, but was associated with a higher rate of clinically significant or severe hypoglycemia.
Sexual dimorphism exists in some species. Individuals of one sex, usually males develop secondary sexual characteristics that increase their chances of reproductive success. In dolphinfish, males have larger and blunter heads than females. In several minnow species, males develop swollen heads and small bumps known as breeding tubercles during the breeding season. The male green humphead parrotfish has a more well-developed forehead with an "ossified ridge" which plays a role in ritualised headbutting. Dimorphism can also take the form of differences in coloration. Again, it is usually the males that are brightly coloured; in killifishes, rainbowfishes and wrasses the colours are permanent while in species like minnows, sticklebacks, darters and sunfishes, the colour changes with seasons. Such coloration can be very conspicuous to predators, showing that the drive to reproduce can be stronger than that to avoid predation. Males that have been unable to court a female successfully may try to achieve reproductive success in other ways. In sunfish species, like the bluegill, larger, older males known as parental males, which have successfully courted a female, construct nests for the eggs they fertilise. Smaller satellite males mimic female behaviour and coloration to access a nest and fertilise the eggs. Other males, known as sneaker males, lurk nearby and then quickly dash to the nest, fertilising on the run. These males are smaller than satellite males.

Activation of the PI3K–AKT signaling pathway by insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF1) or by AKT2 overexpression led to the upregulation of CUX1 and was associated with resistance to apoptosis, whereas treatment of cells with the PI3K inhibitor LY294002 decreased CUX1 expression and increased apoptosis. Whether the discrepancies in the results and conclusions from these two studies can be explained by differences in cell-types or other reasons remains to be verified. The auxiliary role of CUX1 in base excision repair has raised the possibility that its tumor suppressor function may be linked to its function in DNA repair. CUX1 knockdown delays DNA repair in multiple cell lines. Mouse embryo fibroblasts (MEFs) derived from a Cux1-/- knockout mouse exhibit increased genomic instability23, moreover Cux1+/−- heterozygous MEFs are haploinsufficient for DNA repair18. Yet, whether CUX1 hemizygosity augments the risk of cancer by increasing the frequency of mutations and/or genomic rearrangements remains to be formally tested.
A live album and DVD, Rush in Rio, was released in October 2003, featuring the last performance of the band's Vapor Trails tour on November 23, 2002, at Maracanã Stadium in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. To celebrate the band's 30th anniversary, June 2004 saw the release of Feedback, an extended play work recorded in suburban Toronto featuring eight covers of artists including Cream, The Who and The Yardbirds, bands the members of Rush cite as being their inspiration around the time of their inception. Helping to support Feedback and continue celebrating their 30th anniversary as a band, Rush launched the 30th Anniversary Tour in the summer of 2004, playing dates in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Germany, Italy, Sweden, the Czech Republic, and the Netherlands. On September 24, 2004, the concert at The Festhalle in Frankfurt, Germany was filmed for a DVD titled R30: 30th Anniversary World Tour, which was released on November 22, 2005. The release omitted eight songs also included on Rush in Rio; the complete concert was released on Blu-ray on December 8, 2009. During promotional interviews for the R30 DVD, the band members revealed their intention to begin writing new material in early 2006. While in Toronto, Lifeson and Lee began writing songs in January 2006. During that time, Peart assumed the role of lyric writing while living in Southern California. In September 2007, Rush hired American producer Nick Raskulinecz to co-produce the album. The band went to Allaire Studios in Shokan, New York in November 2006 to record the bulk of the material.
The 82nd Airborne Division ("All American") is a United States Army airborne infantry division that specializes in parachute assault, based in Fort Bragg, North Carolina. Currently, the division is commanded by Major General Brandon Tegtmeier. It was first activated at Camp Gordon, in Georgia in August 1917. The 82nd Infantry Division was the second United States Army infantry-combat division of eight to deploy and return in England, and fight in France. The 82nd Infantry Division served with distinction on the Western Front in the final months of World War I. Since its initial members came from all 48 states, the division acquired the nickname All-American, which is the basis for its "AA" (pictured), on the shoulder patch. The Division took part in the Battle of Lorraine 1918, and the campaigns of St. Mihiel and Meuse-Argonne 1918. It was demobilized in May 1919, at Camp Mills, New York. During the summer of 1921, it was reconstituted, placed into the Organized Reserves, as Headquarters, 82nd Division, and was later transferred to the Federal Building at Columbia, South Carolina. After the attack on Pearl Harbor in Hawaii on 7 December 1941, the 82nd Airborne Division saw combat with the command of United States Army General Omar Bradley. In August 1942, Bradley reconstituted the 82nd as the first airborne division of the US Army, and it fought in numerous campaigns of the war.
Temperatures in the tank were off the scale beyond 25 °C (77 °F), and the pressure in the tank was indicated at 280 kilopascals (40 psi). One employee witnessed a concrete slab above tank E610 crack as the emergency relief valve burst open, and pressure in the tank continued to increase to 380 kilopascals (55 psi), despite atmospheric venting of toxic MIC gas having begun. Direct atmospheric venting should have been prevented or at least partially mitigated by at least three safety devices which were malfunctioning, not in use, insufficiently sized, or otherwise rendered inoperable:

The sequence is Met-Glu-His-Phe-Pro-Gly-Pro, a seven-residue peptide. The first four residues correspond to the ACTH(4-10) fragment, and Pro-Gly-Pro is added at the C-terminus. N-acetylated versions also appear in the literature and differ in mass.
Semax is a synthetic analog of the ACTH(4-10) fragment rather than a copy of the full hormone. Truncation plus the added tail removes the steroidogenic portion of ACTH. That distinction explains why it is studied for nervous-system effects instead of adrenal stimulation.
It is registered as a prescription product in Russia and has been used there clinically, chiefly by the intranasal route. No approval exists in the United States or the European Union. Availability elsewhere typically falls under research-chemical distribution, with varying purity documentation.
Each freeze-thaw cycle can degrade a fraction of the peptide and promote aggregation. Dividing a stock solution into single-use volumes removes repeated cycling as a variable. It also limits the time a thawed solution spends at room temperature.
